The Sylva Police established a Bike Patrol in October 1999, to be utilized for special events and patrol activities. The bike squad is comprised of Police
Officers Davis Woodard, Rick Bryson. The department uses the Raleigh F-500 ten speed police bicycle, equipped with the Nite-Rider warning light and siren system. The bike patrol gives the officers the ability to be
"in the middle of the action" at street fairs such as Greening Up the Mountains and allows them to be seen more easily and move more quickly on patrol at these events.
